Advice for North Cyprus Driving

    Some important rules and precautions which you have to follow and take for safer driving in North Cyprus :

• Traffic moves to the LEFT hand side of the road and NOT on the RIGHT.
  
• Always follow the speed limit while driving. In towns the speed limit is 50 km/hr and for motorways the maximum speed is 100/hr and lower is 60km/hr. For your safety keep following the speed rules in North Cyprus.
• Where a double yellow line is painted parallel to the kerb, parking and waiting is prohibited at all times. Parking space is found in town-centres and generaly parking for whole day makes no charge, you can use parking spaces for free.
• Using front seat belts are compulsary in North Cyprus and rear seat belts are optional.
• Driving under the influence of alcohol is strictly against the law and considered a serious offense.
• Children under the age of five must NOT sit in the front passenger seat.
• Even if there has never been a car theft event in North Cyprus before it is adviced that always lock the vehicle when unattended to make sure that your valuables are safe.
• Do not leave your camera in your car in summer as the heat inside may have ruined your film.
• Although crime rate in North Cyprus is minimal, do not leave valuables, jackets, maps and other belongings in the car also.
• North Cyprus Car HireRush hours in the towns are generally between 7.30 and 8.00 am, 13.00 and 13.30 pm and between 17.00 and 18.00 pm. Try to avoid the traffic at the time as you can get sometimes trapped in a jam.
• Always make sure you have sufficient fuel as petrol stations can be few and far between especially in North Cyprus villages.
• If you are the driver, remember to carry your driving licence and car rental documents with you at all times. You may be asked to show your documents on the spot by a police officer.
• If possible, avoid driving west in the late afternoon during summer, as the glare of setting sun right into your face may seem dangerous.
• When driving in Northern Cyprus avoid using telephone (unless hands-free).
